Booking My Hotels for Panama and Lima Using Marriott Points

So now that I have the first 2 legs of my trip booked via frequent flyer miles, I am going to use my Marriott points to book my hotel rooms.

I recently Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card offered by Chase Bank. This got me 70,000 Marriott points with only a $2000 spend in 2 months. I just purchased my ShopRite gift cards and bought groceries using this card for 2 months. [Yes, I spend $1000 on food a month – I have 2 teenage boys.] I already had about 18,500 points in my account from previous business trips, but needed more for this trip.

Now that I had my points in my Marriott Account –

First I booked my Lima Hotel, since this is a very nice Category 7 Hotel — and thus expensive at over $300/night — I wanted to check availability. Luckily, there was availability for both nights I will be in Lima and it cost me 70,000 points. I checked availability for February of 2015 (3 months from now) and noticed there was no availability – so planning ahead really counts, especially for the nicer properties.

So now I had about 18,000 points remaining and needed to book the hotel in Panama City. This hotel was 15,000 points per night, and I needed 2 nights. I had to purchase one night but at only $106/night, I feel that it was a bargain since that is my total cost for 4 nights at Marriott hotels. These hotels are also in primo spots in the places I will be visiting. My only gripe is that in Lima, they do not offer airport pickup service. Really?

Marriott also now offers free WiFi when you book through their portal.

Next steps for this trip:

  • Find a hostal in Cusco (and possibly one in Pisac)
  • Book Lima <-> Cusco flights via LAN airlines
  • Locate tour company and availability for my Inca Trail hike
