One of my favorite travel resource sites/blogs is Boots N All. They have a great article entitled:

11 Reasons to Stop Dreaming and Start Planning Your Round the World Trip

For me numbers 1, 10, and 11 hit home the hardest.

Why wait until you are ‘retired’ to travel the world. In this current world economy I doubt most people my age and younger will ever fully retire anyway. Also, gas prices are only going to get higher so you may find yourself completely priced out of a plane ticket in 10 years. Working until I drop dead is not very appealing to me – go figure.  So if I put these plans on hold, the time may never come, and if it does I may too old to enjoy some of the activities I would try now.

I know that age is not necessarily a limiting factor, in fact, an 80-year old Japanese man recently climbed Mount Everest (!), however,  everyone ages differently. You may have all the best intentions to stay healthy and in-shape but you could be struck with a genetic disease that either partly or completely disables you or limits your mobility. I don’t want to be too depressing, but the point is you never know what will become of you in even just a few short years – carpe diem people!

So #1 – You are Only Going to Get Older

The old adage applies: The best time to get started on something worthwhile was yesterday, the second best time is today.

#10 – It will change your view

You will see the world differently, you will see your life in context to the world differently.

#11 – Regret

I already have enough of these for 2 lifetimes, I don’t want to add to the pile. I will hate lying on the proverbial death bed and wish I had traveled the world more.

Which of these reasons really drives you to travel abroad?

Nice one. I agree of course. Those reasons hit home for me too. The idea behind 30K days hits home as well. There is a clock on my/your life – we just don’t know when it will expire.

Maybe today, maybe tomorrow, maybe when I’m 100. Better get busy Living!

    Onwards and thanks for sharing.
